Intro

Born in Sao Paulo, 1967. 

Lives and works in São Paulo.

 

Maria Andrade is a visual artist. Since 1992, she has participated in individual and group shows, exposing abstract and figurative oil paintings, as well as zinc and tin sculptures. Among the solo shows, Sem sombra de dúvidas, (2022) with text by Rodrigo Naves, Cerrado, at Boiler Galeria, with text by the curator and critic Tiago Mesquita, and A difference between things (2019) at Galeria Vírgilio, with text by Vania Reis. Among the group shows are Um Desassossego, at Galeria Estação (2016), BR (2016) and 3 Marias (2018), at Galeria Virgílio, and Um Lugar Lugar nenhum (2021) curated by Rodrigo Andrade, at Galeria Marilia Razuk.

 

She made illustrations for Capricho and Veja magazines, created and directed animations for MTV and, between 2004 and 2005, published weekly comics of her character Brux in the Folha de São Paulo newspaper. As a coordinator of educational workshops, she worked at the Metal Sculpture Workshop at MAM (1998-2003), at the Lata Sculpture Workshop at Sesc Ipiranga, in communities in the interior of Minas Gerais and in tapestry workshops with artisans in the city of Morro da Crane (MG).
